December 2015 Newsletter

Ah yes, December.

The huge D at the end of the year. The month of holidays. The nightcap of months. Gateway to another twelve of the unknown.

Here we are at the end of another one. 2015 was full of amazing things, but 2016 can be full of even amazinger things if we could all unite and yell about stuff just a little bit more on the Internet.

Here's my wishlist for 2016:

• Non-exploding hoverboards
• A good Star Wars movie
• Chemtrails that actually work
• John McAfee sworn in as US President
• A cure for milk allergies
• Free Kindle e-readers for every human

I'm sure you have your own list of good things to look forward to, but I like mine.

See you in 2016!

Let's Encrypt is Coming!

A lot of traffic on the Internet is sent in plaintext by default, which has the unfortunate side effect of making it observable to anyone with the right listening tools.

The US government (among many others) was recently shamed into revealing their own surveillance programs thanks to the 2013 revelations of NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden.

All of this serves as great backstory to help you understand the importance of the "Let's Encrypt" project.

In a nutshell, Let's Encrypt aims to bring encryption to every site on the web, and it plans to do so by issuing secure certificates free of charge to anyone who requests them.

Earlier this month we pledged to fully support Let's Encrypt natively in our control panel. You can read a bit more on our blog:

DreamHost Blog: Let's Encrypt and DreamHost

While we're still working on our Let's Encrypt integration, we wanted to let you know about it NOW, because this is pretty frickin' cool and we're super pumped about it!

Quick Question!

We've got a quick question for you this month...

More and more web traffic is coming from mobile devices, but do you have any idea just HOW much?

DreamHost WTF: Technical Support!

What's that feature? It's Technical Support!

We've kept our entire technical support team in-house and don't outsource any of it! Tech support is truly one of our best features, if you can forget about our strong jawline and naturally sweet-smelling body odor for a minute.

The DreamHost tech support team is powerful. So powerful, in fact, that at any other hosting company they might be considered junior-level system administrators. We train 'em good, and we train 'em right.

All of our tech support team members are empowered to fix or assist with just about anything that comes their way, and that means you'll get your issues resolved super-duperly fast!

This month contacting our tech support team got even easier because we've completely redesigned the "Contact Support" section of our control panel with YOU in mind!

For a little bit of the thinking that went into the redesign, check out our blog:

DreamHost Blog: A New Way to Get Support

You can view the new goodness, or contact our support team as always, from your account control panel:

DreamHost Site Of The Month

A website can receive no higher honor than to be named a DreamHost Site Of The Month. It is the website award that all other website awards aspire to be.

Each month YOU submit your sites for consideration and one lone DreamHost employee picks their favorite. That person is me.

This month's site of the month iiiiiis....

Traci York, Writer
"As you may have guessed from the name of this blog, my name is Traci (InternetG33k to some), and I am a writer."

It's hard to keep up a blog and develop original, unique content on a regular basis! Somehow Traci does it! Great job, lady! Keep writing!

Thanks for submitting, @TraciYorkWriter!

Every month we get a bunch of really good entries for the DreamHost SOTM, and you should check them out! I'm serious. Do yourself a favor and spend a few minutes digging through them all!

View DreamHost Site Of The Month Entries

If you'd like your site to be considered as a site of the month, just TWEET your site's URL(s) with the #DreamHostSOTM hashtag and we'll take it from there. Enter as many months as you like!

We'll search through all the entries at the end of the month and assign a winner to the one site that tickles our fancies the most.

See ya next YEAR!
Brett D!

P.S. - 2016 could be the year of "no more DreamHost newsletters" if you unsubscribe from them:
