Introduction
Rise! Rise up, my friends! Now is the time to #Drexit! DreamHost is terrible! The worst! Cancel your accounts now! It's time to get back to hosting basics! I refer of course to the classic style of web hosting - one where you sign up for service and are granted access to an empty, yet fulfilling, directory on the world wide web! It used to be just you, the command line, and a book about Perl at your side, boldly diving into new frontiers. Aye, those were the days! DreamHost still offers that classic experience, sure, but they've gotten all fancy with a plethora of exotic services that are simply too impressive for their own good! Managed WordPress hosting? Good God! Object storage??? BARF. Virtual cloud servers?!?!? WHAT DOES THIS EVEN MEAN? MORE THAN THREE TLD CHOICES?!!?!??!?!??!?! .com, .net, and .org should be enough for anyone FOREVER. Who needs all these bells and whistles! DreamHost is changing the game in ways that should make you supremely uncomfortable. They've lost sight of what it truly means to be a web host. DreamHost has made the decision to innovate, overdeliver, and delight their customers, and that simply cannot stand. This is not what I signed up for! This is not what any of us signed up for! And so I say, Drexit! Drexit before you're sucked into to their cornucopia of helpful and outstanding services!

New TLDs for June! | |

The Top Level Domain (TLD) Express left the station years ago and there's just no stopping that thing! In June we added an additional 23 TLD options to our registration system! Now, in addition to stalwarts like ".com" and ".org", you can grab domains that end in family stuff like .mom, e-commercey stuff like .store, and hot stuff like .xxx!
The new TLDs added in June are: Pricing for TLDs varies a great deal, as each is often run by a separate registry with their own hopes, dreams, and balance sheets. DreamCompute Upgraded to OpenStack Mitaka! | |

DreamCompute, our public cloud computing platform, is a lovely thing. You can spin up unmanaged virtual servers with your choice of operating system in about 30 seconds, and you can do it for *less than half* of what many of our customers pay today for traditional shared hosting. We recently added a Quicklaunch tab to the DreamCompute web dashboard. Now all it takes to spin up a Debian, Fedora, or Ubuntu machine are a couple of clicks! It's as simple as do re mi, A B C, 1 2 3, baby you and me girl (or guy, or "other")! The open-source software at the heart of DreamCompute is called OpenStack, and this month we upgraded our installation to the latest version of OpenStack, codenamed "Mitaka". 'Round these parts we've got two things called DreamPress. The first is our immensely popular managed WordPress platform, which we call DreamPress 2: The other is our autonomous, self-aware printing press. This thing cranks out eBooks like you would not believe! I'm serious - we can't get it to stop. It's kind of a burden on our infrastructure at this point and most of what it creates is not fit for wide distribution. However, in-between all the Star Trek Fan Fiction and unbearable treatises on Proust, it sometimes pops out some pretty good stuff. In fact, that happened this month! What's that feature? It's Freedom of Speech! "I've got a great idea for a website, but the content is a little... sketchy...are you guys ok with hosting it?" We hear that a lot. SO much. But our answer is always the same: There is no larger supporter of the United States' Constitution and its First Amendment than DreamHost. As long as your content is legal in the state of California (our headquarters!) we'd be happy to host you! That goes for all content - from freaky fetishes to harmless cat photos, from hate speech that makes your skin crawl to beautiful and inspiring words of peace, we're really just a digital bucket for humanity. As a content-neutral service provider, we get to witness the democratizing power of the internet first-hand on a daily basis! It's never boring, that's for sure. Just as we believe that all people and content should be treated equally online, so too should internet traffic! That's why we're also such big supporters of net neutrality! We've made some great progress here in the US on that front, but the battle in Europe is only just beginning. BanjoCraft I'm not ashamed to come clean - I'm a closet banjo fan. That crisp sound, its rich bluegrass legacy, and that whole beginning part of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride...hoooweee, brother!
